About the Long-range Transportation Plan:
This Long-range Transportation Plan (LRTP) will examine the entire state of transportation in northeastern Connecticut and explore ways in which NECCOG, its member towns, and the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) can cultivate transportation systems that are compatible with one another and with regional land use patterns, that support economic activity, job growth, environmental and historic preservation, and quality of life, and that equitably and efficiently serve the region’s nearly 100,000 people.
As a rural region of Connecticut—that is, not a region designated as a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT)—the Northeastern Connecticut Council of Governments (NECCOG) is not required to prepare and update a Long-range Transportation Plan in compliance with the requirements for such a plan and in order to direct Federal transportation spending in the region. Nonetheless, transportation is an essential component to consider when guiding regional growth, and all regions of Connecticut must set priorities and performance measures in order to ensure that local, state, and federal investments are made in concert with the social, economic, and environmental needs of the region and conform to local, regional, and state-wide plans.
